HIGHFIELD HOUSE

The house located in Kew East, Victoria is a renovation and extension project. The Highfield House’s brief requires larger spaces for dining and living areas with new decking and barbecue area looking out to the beautiful garden and swimming pool. The design explores the relationship between inside and outside spaces allowing flexibility for family activities and events throughout the year. The architecture embraces the landscape and brings the outside into the internal space through framing views. The extension is filled with natural light but also blocks harsh summer sun out with overhanging roof. The butterfly form of the roof creates a dynamic living space and embracing the existing tree in the backyard. Landscaping elements like decking and seating are designed carefully to allow choices for inhabitants in everyday activities.
